Former Lead Researchers - ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute
S Tiwari

S Tiwari was the first and only Lead Researcher for ASEAN-related Legal Affairs from January 2009 to July 2010. Before joining ISEAS as a Visiting Senior Research Fellow, he served in various senior capacities in the Singapore Legal Service, most recently as the Head of the International Affairs Division at Singapore’s Attorney-General’s Chambers. During his Legal Service stint, he was extensively involved in many aspects of ASEAN-related legal work, including negotiating, advising and drafting key trade, investment and dispute-related instruments. He edited the book “ASEAN:Life After the Charter” published by ISEAS in May 2010. Sadly, Mr Tiwari passed away unexpectedly on 26 July 2010.

Pavin Chachavalpongpun

Pavin Chachavalpongpun was the ASC’s Lead Researcher for Political and Security Affairs from March 2008 to March 2012. He also served concurrently as an ISEAS Fellow in the ISEAS Regional Political and Strategic Studies programme. Before joining ISEAS, Pavin served in the Thai Foreign Service in many capacities; his last assignment being with the Royal Thai Embassy in Singapore. Pavin has written extensively on Myanmar and Thailand issues. Pavin holds a PhD from the School of Oriental and African Studies, Department of Political Studies, University of London. While at ISEAS, Pavin authored A Plastic Nation: The Curse of Thainess in Thai-Burmese Relations, and co-authored Myanmar: Life After Nargis (ISEAS, 2009) with Moe Thuzar. ISEAS published his second book, Reinventing Thailand: Thaksin Shinawatra and His Foreign Policy in 2010. Pavin has also edited two volumes, both published by ISEAS in 2014: Entering Uncharted Waters? ASEAN and the South China Sea and “Good Coup” Gone Bad: Thailand’s Political Development Since Thaksin’s Downfall. Pavin is now with the Centre for Southeast Asian Studies at Kyoto University.
