This article was published by New Straits Times on 14 May 2023. Dr Leon Comber, a long-time Visiting Senior Fellow with the ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute, passed away peacefully in Melbourne today on 11 May 2023.
Dr Comber joined ISEAS in 2006 on a brief two-month attachment as a Visiting Fellow, followed by four months as a Visiting Senior Fellow in 2008-2009. Thereafter he stayed on as Senior Fellow in ISEAS for a much longer period, from 2011 to 2020. Over the years, apart from writing articles and speaking at seminars, he also published three major books with ISEAS Publishing:
- Malaya’s Secret Police 1945-60, The Role of the Special Branch in the Malayan Emergency
- Templer and the Road to Malayan Independence – The Man and His Time
- Dalley and the Malayan Security Service, 1945–48: MI5 vs. MSS
