ISEAS received a donation of 2 million Philippine pesos from the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Singapore in support of our Philippine research projects this month.

The funding, from a Philippine government programme that provides support to foreign institutions to boost the study of the Philippines, will cover 3 years of research work including fieldwork, publications, events and enhancing Philippine studies resources in the ISEAS Library. It is a fitting way to celebrate the 50th anniversary year of Singapore-Philippines bilateral relations.

ISEAS is the first institute in East and Southeast Asia to receive funding through this programme championed by Senator Loren Legarda.

Philippine Ambassador to Singapore, HE Joseph Del Mar Yap and Mr Choi Shing Kwok signed an agreement on the donation on 4 December 2019 at ISEAS, witnessed by the Embassy staff and ISEAS colleagues.

We are grateful for the trust placed in us by our friends in the Philippines and look forward to contributing even further to the study of the Philippines in the next 3 years.
