Thirty years of Doi Moi reviewed in ISEAS’ Vietnam Forum 2016

 

This year, as Vietnam celebrates its thirty years of reform, the Forum became a timely and suitable venue for participants to review the country’s past achievements as well as shortcomings, and to discuss its future challenges and outlooks.

The Vietnam Forum 2016, which was organised by ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute on 7-8 April 2016 and supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), adopted the theme “Vietnam’s Thirty Years of Doi Moi and Beyond”.

ISEAS hosted an exclusive preview of report “Indonesian Students in Egypt and Turkey”

 

The seminar based on the exclusive preview of the report was delivered by co-authors, Sidney Jones and Navhat Nuraniyah from the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict in Jakarta and Anthony Bubalo from the Lowy Institute in Sydney on Wednesday, 6 April 2016. 

The report, “Influences on Indonesian Students in Egypt and Turkey”, is based on in-depth interviews with Indonesian students currently studying in both countries.

Indonesia’s foreign policies discussed in ISEAS Seminar by Professor Donald Weatherbee, ISEAS Visiting Professorial Fellow

 

The seminar was delivered by Professor Donald Weatherbee, ISEAS Visiting Professorial Fellow, Regional Strategic and Political Studies on Tuesday, 5 April 2016. 
He assessed Jokowi’s road to the presidency by talking about how expectations were relatively low, the differences between Jokowi and Prabowo and former President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono on their foreign policy agenda and outlook.
Despite the handful of foreign policy puzzles contained in Indonesian foreign policy, Prof Weatherbee believes that, on the whole under Jokowi, Indonesia continues to be a responsible, cooperative international partner, sharing interests in the economic growth and promoting regional peace and security.
