The Malaysian Economy Towards 2020: Issues and Challenges Conference

 

The 2-day conference, jointly organised by both ISEAS and the University of Nottingham Malaysia, was held at ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute from Tuesday, 22 March 2016. The conference,  which is part of the Malaysia Studies Programme and Regional Economic Studies, was also supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). 

About 80 participants registered for the conference. Topics that were actively discussed include Malaysia’s trade, manufacturing, services, GLCs and SOEs, education, labour market, poverty, inequality and well-being; infrastructure, regional development, agricultural and resource-based industries, SMEs, healthcare, development planning, banking and finance, and fiscal sustainability.

ISEAS Researchers contributed a chapter to the book “Connecting Asia”, published by Edward Elgar Publishing

 

Ms Moe Thuzar, ISEAS Fellow and Lead Researcher, ASEAN Studies Centre, Dr Francis Hutchinson, ISEAS Senior Fellow and Coordinator, Regional Economic Studies Programme, Dr Tin Maung Maung Than, ISEAS Visiting Senior Fellow and Dr Termsak Chalermpalanupap, ISEAS Fellow and Lead Researcher contributed a chapter “Implementation Challenges and Coordination Arrangements” to the book, “Connecting Asia: Infrastructure for Integrating South and Southeast Asia”. 

Dr Rahul Mishra is also a contributor to the chapter and provides the South Asian perspective. 

The book, which was led by Asian Development Bank Institute, explores the potential opportunities and challenges for connecting South and Southeast Asia.

Launch of the Archaeology Unit Gallery and Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre Workshop

 

The Archaeology Unit Gallery was officially unveiled at ISEAS Library on Monday, 14 March 2016, to conclude the first day of the workshop on “The Heritage of Ancient and Urban Sites: Giving Voice to Local Priorities”.

Organised by Nalanda-Sriwijaya Centre, the workshop brought together heritage professionals, academics, practitioners, policymakers and grassroots organisations from six countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore and Thailand.
