In the News: ISEAS Visiting Senior Fellow, Leo Suryadinata, honoured by the Indonesian Government

 

Academic Dr Leo Suryadinata became the first Singaporean to receive an award from the Indonesian government that honours cultural contributions and efforts to deepen understanding of the archipelago.

The article, “Indonesia honours Singaporean academic Leo Suryadinata for his work on the country’s ethnic Chinese community” appeared in the Straits Times on 5 October 2018.  

The article also quoted Dr Terence Chong, Deputy Director and Dr Siwage Dharma Negara, Senior Fellow with ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute.

On 3 October 2018, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) unanimously nominated General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong to be the candidate for the state president position that has been left vacant after the recent passing of the late President Tran Dai Quang. The National Assembly will officially elect Mr Trong to the state presidency at its forthcoming session to be opened on 22 October 2018.
