Mr Tan Chin Tiong was conferred the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star. This is a prestigious honour by the Japanese government in recognition of his work to promote bilateral ties between Singapore and Japan, when he was Singapore’s Ambassador to Japan from October 2004 to January 2012. Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that Mr Tan had “contributed to promoting friendly relations and mutual understanding”.
Mr Tan is currently Director of ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute.
