Thirty years of Doi Moi reviewed in ISEAS’ Vietnam Forum 2016

 

This year, as Vietnam celebrates its thirty years of reform, the Forum became a timely and suitable venue for participants to review the country’s past achievements as well as shortcomings, and to discuss its future challenges and outlooks.

The Vietnam Forum 2016, which was organised by ISEAS – Yusof Ishak Institute on 7-8 April 2016 and supported by Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), adopted the theme “Vietnam’s Thirty Years of Doi Moi and Beyond”.

Vietnam Forum 2016 reviews thirty years of Doi Moi

 

The Vietnam Forum 2016 covered a wide range of issues, from the development of Vietnam’s private sector and state-owned enterprise reforms, its rural and urban transformations, challenges facing the country’s political system, to Vietnam’s relations with major powers and its international economic integration.

 

ISEAS hosted an exclusive preview of report “Indonesian Students in Egypt and Turkey”

 

The seminar based on the exclusive preview of the report was delivered by co-authors, Sidney Jones and Navhat Nuraniyah from the Institute for Policy Analysis of Conflict in Jakarta and Anthony Bubalo from the Lowy Institute in Sydney on Wednesday, 6 April 2016. 

The report, “Influences on Indonesian Students in Egypt and Turkey”, is based on in-depth interviews with Indonesian students currently studying in both countries.

The 20th ASEAN Finance Ministers’ Meeting (AFMM) and the 12th ASEAN Central Bank Governors’ Meeting (ACGM) concluded on 4 April in Vientiane, Laos PDR. The two meetings covered various topics, including the ASEAN Infrastructure Fund, insurance cooperation, customs cooperation, efforts to combating the financing of terrorism, capital market development, capital account liberation and financial services. ASEAN countries have concluded the seventh package of their negotiations for the liberalisation of the regional financial sector, and are set to launch the eighth round later this year. The subsequent rounds will focus on liberalizing the insurance sector.
